Ok I’m very much still figuring out this format, but I think my goal with these posts is to keep them short and sweet, with minimal editorializing or commenting on the things I recommend, so it’s easy to maintain and ideally burnout-proofed for me.
A quick note: I’m going to try to use emojis to show whether it’s a
podcast (🎧)
article (📰)
internet thing, like a Tweet or TikTok (👩💻) or
book (📚) recommendation
for easy skimming but please let me know if that format isn’t working

📰 Someone asking for advice in The Cut about how their average life is “smothering” them: “I just can’t shake the notion that I will wake up one day and be 80 years old and feel like I’ve wasted my life. Every week I feel like I’m waiting for the weekend, and every weekend I’m anxious about the monotony of the upcoming week. It feels like an unbearably average life.” ———HELLO MY OWN FEAR
👩💻 This tweet about what 10k could do. This person tweeted this before the student loan forgiveness but it really got me thinking about how much money I/all of us actually need in our lives to relieve much of our anxiety and worries. Like would that number be something like 10k or something like 500k? Something to think about in your own life (would love to hear your answers)
👩💻 5 Lessons from Netflix’s 67% decline, particularly this one for the people interested in tech and product: “Content CAN trump product. In this new market, Netflix’s higher quality streaming product only matters on the periphery. Sure, its search, smart downloads, & home page algorithm are best in class. But the main turf for competition has shifted to content. This is a major takeaway for product leaders. Unlimited optimization of every surface isn’t always how to move the needle.”——- so interesting. Like yes Netflix has the best product in the game re: recommendations, UX etc. but there is a reason we stick with shitty HBOMax interface, and that shouldn’t be underestimated.
📰 Ok this is an old article but a friend just sent it to me and I thought it’s absolutely worth sharing: science is in that people who seek novelty and newness, a trait that psychologists had long categorized as potentially “trouble” (often leading to addiction, ADHD, crime etc.) are actually potential indicators of happiness and well-being?!
🎧 I played a lot of ping pong this week, and have started playing pickleball recently, and it’s absolutely blowing my mind how much I’m…enjoying it? Something about the idea of learning a new skill, learning technique, but also I have found FLOW. Not to win, not to “workout” per se but just because it’s fun. Reminds me of this ep of Glennon Doyle’s “We Can Do Hard Things” podcast about fun and how fun is defined (and why it’s often hard for women to experience it readily)
👩💻 Mozilla Foundation released a guide called “Privacy Not Included” where you can search products and see their “privacy” rating, ie how well do products like FB messenger, your period app, Google maps, Apple Airpods, Playstation etc. protect you as a user. They just read the terms and conditions and all the docs that are publicly available and, well… it’s not great. You can literally type whatever product (software, hardware etc.) you want and see the ratings— just be prepared to be a little sad.
🎧 I really loved this podcast ep of HerFirst100k with Cinneah about job hopping and how if you do it right, job hopping is the KEY WAY to get more money, better titles etc. This has absolutely been my experience and this is a hill I’ll die on.
OK— there you have it, my first curated list.
Questions for you:
What did you think?
Too few resources? Too many?
Were my descriptions too wordy and you couldn’t even find the links?
Were the links not in a format that resonated for you? (IDK the best way to link out podcast eps, for ex, so I’m very open to suggestions!)
Did you like the topics?
Please tell me everything because I want to iterate on this and make it 10x better! Email me back or comment on this post.
Miri, I loved this. I can hear you commenting on each link as if we were in person asking each other what we have been reading
Would love if you could add a part if you’re cooking anything or listening to any new music. I know those are part of your hobby lists too :)
I agree with the others that reading this felt like watching one of your TikTok’s (in the best way). I thought your descriptions were the perfect length and wouldn’t mind more of your commentary. It would definitely be cool to do a sort of round up of what peoples responses were to the most notable topic from the previous week? Also a playlist that describes your vibes for the week or just new music you’re listening to would be cool. So excited to see what this becomes!
