Why Are We So Obsessed With Blue? from the NYTimes Style Magazine. As the article gets into, blue is used to portray sadness, melancholy, troubles, and then is also used for hope, wisdom, depth, awe. In retrospect it seems obvious that blue has featured so heavily in art and culture, but I guess I’ve not thought much about it. Of course I know about Picasso’s Blue period, and had heard of Imani Perry’s new book Black in Blues, but seeing it all laid out in this article-just how many artists have written about, painted, and captured the color-was really compelling. A challenge I’m seeing for those of us who are interested:

In the style of William Burroughs’ Walking on Color, I’m going to practice noticing blue as I move through my days. Maybe I’ll even take pictures and try to capture. Come join me in this meditative challenge.
