Will college degrees become obsolete? How can we teach kindergarteners sex-ed? Are GIFS over and done with? GET YOUR NEW BOOSTER SHOT.
š° The former IBM CEO helped coin a new term called ānew collar jobsā which are jobs that require specific skills rather than a four-year college degree to encourage more diversity in their workforce. Itās working, apparently! I find this whole conversation so interesting because on the one hand this truly is such a great way to increase diversity (age, ethnic, geographic, class) because college is becoming less and less accessible to people. On the other hand, it quasi-reminds me of all the tech founders (cough cough Elon) saying college isnāt relevant, useful, importantāand I think the āsoft-skillsā (hate that term) we learn in college, like empathy, critical thinking, writing, reading, creativity, are foundational skills for us all, and our society, and if fewer people are learning these things, what will happen?!? Itās a very nuanced topic, so Iād love to hear what you all think!
š©āš» āWhich authors are worth taking a risk on with a creative, unique book cover title.. and which ones.. arenāt?ā This is a question this TikToker poses in a video around why so many books these days have these blobby book covers. Super an interesting discussion and this is definitely something Iāve noticed and am honestly so annoyed by. How am I supposed to know what this book is about at all when theyāre all just colorful blobs?
š° A really thought-provoking piece on what sex-ed can look like at all different stages: elementary school, middle school, and high-school, and how each stage should/could be focusing on different, age-appropriate things. I REALLY love this approachā it feels to me like using this approach will ensure the information can actually have a lasting impact on how you perceive your own body, relationships, your own comfort with these conversations etc. Like Iām sorry but a single hour once a week where we just somehow talked about periods for 8 months? Didnāt do anything for meā¦.
š§ Maintenance Phase is always a top podcast rec from me, but their episode on the French Paradox (ie. the āhow is it that French people eat so much butter and drink so much wine and are still so āfitā"??! question) truly gave me SO MUCH FOOD FOR THOUGHT (pun intended).
š° Are GIFS cringe now? Are they outdated? What was once a top-notch internet art form might beā¦obsolete. How and why is this happening? Found that article really interesting, although once again Iām just shocked at how fast the internet trends fade into oblivionā¦.
Do you still use GIFs?
Final note: I was really saddened (although not surprised) to read this article whose headline is:
So this is my formal plea to a) read the article for more info, and b) schedule your bivalent booster shot! Idk about you but I just feel so much more secure and protected with every booster I get. I. LOVE. SCIENCE.
And as alwaysā please check out my podcast playlist from the last week or so (be warned: there are two try guys adjacent episodes, because I needed to figure out what tf was going on LOL:
Out of thousands of emails, yours make me the most joy filled. Thank you for what you do. It matters to me.
It matters greatly. I wanted to write you a letter. Donāt know if that possible. But seriously, thank you so much.
